HPD: Officer hurt when SUV runs red light, crashes into patrol car

The injured officer is expected to be OK.

HOUSTON — An officer was taken to the hospital Thursday night after an SUV ran a red light and crashed into her patrol car while she was responding to a scene, according to the Houston Police Department.

This happened around 11:09 p.m. at the intersection of the Sam Houston Tollway feeder road and Richmond Avenue.

Police said the officer was driving south on the feeder road with her lights and siren on. She had a green light when she entered the intersection. According to HPD, the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was driving west on Richmond when they ran a red light, crashing into the officer.

The driver of the Tahoe took off. Officers found the SUV nearby, but couldn't locate the driver.

The injured officer is expected to be OK.
