HOUSTON — A Houston Police Department officer was arrested Saturday after being accused of domestic violence.
HPD initially posted a statement and mugshot of the officer to social media, saying Officer Valeriano Rios was arrested by the Deer Park Police Department and booked into the Harris County Jail.
A few minutes after that post, the department deleted that tweet.
When asked why the post was deleted, we were told that Rios works as an undercover officer. HPD also asked that we don't share his mugshot, a request we are honoring.
According to court documents, Rios allegedly threw a metal cup at a woman, hitting her in the leg.
In the statement that was deleted, HPD said Rios had been relieved of duty pending an internal affairs investigation. The statement also said Rios was sworn in as an HPD officer in May 2013 and assigned to the Narcotics Division.
HPD said they would send an updated statement, but so far, we have not gotten one.
Check back for updates.
