FRIENDSWOOD, Texas Houston police are searching for a male suspect after a female employee was sexually assaulted while she was leaving Baybrook Mall Friday evening.
According to the Houston Police Department, the victim was leaving the mall, located off the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston, when she was confronted by the male suspect at 9 p.m. The suspect pretended to have a gun and forced her into the back of a tan vehicle.
The suspect then drove her to an undisclosed location where the assault occurred, police said. The suspect then dropped off the victim in front of an art supply store across from the same mall.
HPD s Special Crimes unit is investigating the case.
KHOU 11 News spoke to a woman who said she works at the same store in the mall as the victim. She s worried more isn t being done to get information out to catch the rapist.
I am just concerned because management has requested the employees not talk about the incident. I think that people need to be aware of it and know what really happened, she said.
She fears businesses want to keep things quiet, so shoppers aren t alarmed.
HPD said there are no other reports of sexual assaults at the mall. There was plenty of mall security and patrol cars, but HPD is here for routine burglary and theft prevention detail for the holidays.
