HOUSTON A man was shot and killed outside an apartment complex in northwest Houston early Sunday morning in what appeared to be a botched robbery.
Around 3:30 a.m., Houston police responded to a shooting call and found a man lying on the sidewalk in an alleyway between two apartment buildings at Grow St. and Guhn. He had been shot at least once.
The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Samuel Moreno-Mares. Police said he had just returned home from his job as a DJ and had parked his truck in the street in front of his apartment when an unknown suspect tried to rob him.
Police said Moreno-Mares ran into the complex, but the suspect caught up with him and opened fire.
Moreno-Mares wallet was found nearby with money still inside. Investigators said there has been a rash of robberies in the area.
Anyone with information on this crime is urged to contact HPD Homicide.
