HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A Harris County sheriff's deputy and an armed man were injured during a shooting following a chase on Highway 249 late Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy was grazed in the head while the accused gunman was hit when the deputy returned fire, the sheriff’s office said.
This happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes just north of Schroeder Road.
The sheriff's office said the deputy tried to make a traffic stop but the driver kept going leading to a chase. The driver then crashed his car.
The driver then pulled out a gun and shot at the deputy grazing him, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy returned fire and hit the driver. The driver then ran to a nearby home where law enforcement set up a perimeter.
A K-9 unit was brought in and found the driver hiding under a trampoline on Schaffer Lane. The sheriff’s office said that is when he shot the K-9 and began hitting the dog.
Deputies took him into custody. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The deputy was also taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK. The K-9 will be checked out by a veterinarian for precautionary reasons.
