Investigators search for gunman after man shot, killed during fight in Coverleaf area, HCSO says

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the victim, a 30-year-old man, was walking with a woman toward a nearby motel when the two were followed by three men.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man is dead after a fight led to a shooting in east Harris County late Thursday night.

This happened shortly before midnight on Freeport Street in the Cloverleaf community, which is near the East Freeway and Beltway 8.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the victim, a 30-year-old man, was walking with a woman toward a nearby motel when the two were followed by three men. The victim reportedly got into an argument with one of the men that eventually turned into a physical fight.

Another one of the three men pulled out a handgun and shot the victim, deputies said.

Deputies found the man lying on the ground at a nearby gas station with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery but ultimately died.

The sheriff's office said they believe the three men to be locals and that detectives are canvassing the area looking for them.

It's unclear what sparked the fight.

If you have any information about the incident you're asked to contact HCSO's homicide division at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 713-222-8477 (TIPS).
