Deputies kill man in shootout in northwest Harris County, sheriff says | House may be boobie trapped

At least five deputies ranging in experience from three years to 29 years on the force, opened fire, according to the sheriff.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies shot and killed a man who opened fire on them during an investigation in northwest Harris County near Highway 6, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The sheriff said deputies responded to a call about an abandoned car in the middle of Flemington Avenue, which is near the Concord Colony neighborhood, around 11 a.m. Friday.

When the first deputy arrived and started investigating the car, they heard shots from a nearby home, according to Gonzalez. More deputies arrived and the sheriff said the man fired shots out from the home toward the deputies. A crisis negotiation team was called to the scene.

As they were establishing a perimeter around the home, Gonzalez said the man came out and deputies shot the man. At least five deputies ranging in experience from three years to 29 years on the force, opened fire, according to the sheriff. Three of them were patrol deputies and two were K-9 deputies.

The man died at the scene, according to the sheriff.

After the shooting, Gonzalez said the deputies attempted to search the home but retreated after finding evidence that the home could have traps. The sheriff said there is no threat to the community.

Gonzalez said the sheriff's office received calls for service at the home previously regarding domestic violence and mental health. He said if the suspect was who they believed he was, he had an open felony narcotics warrant for his arrest.

The sheriff said no deputies were reported injured.

It's unclear what prompted the shooting.
