Officer fires at armed man pointing gun at him outside SW Houston home, police say

Police said the man was not hit when an officer opened fire. The suspect had a gun when police approached him.

HOUSTON — A man was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff and a shooting involving an officer in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

This happened outside of a home on Buffalo Speedway just south of West Orem.

Houston police said they were called out to the home around 1 a.m. when a mother said her mentally ill adult son threatened himself and other family members. When HPD showed up, a patrol officer said the son pointed his gun at him and that's when the officer fired one shot.

Police said the suspect was not hit and barricaded himself in the trailer saying he wanted the officer to kill him.

Police eventually got him out of the home and no one was injured.
