HOUSTON — The search continues for the driver who shot and killed a teen in downtown Houston over the weekend in what police said was a deadly case of road rage.
During a news conference on Wednesday, police gave more details of the shooting that left 17-year-old Louise Wilson of Whitney, Texas dead and a passenger in her car injured.
According to Detective Calab Bowling with the Houston Police Department, Wilson was driving with two male passengers in her car at around 1 a.m. Sunday, heading southbound on the Pierce Elevated portion of I-45. That's when witnesses said she unintentionally cut off another driver.
That other driver then pulled up along the driver's side of Wilson's car and started firing. Wilson was hit multiple times. A male passenger was shot once.
Police said Wilson was able to get to the side of the road before she died.
"She was able to brake and get over to the side. Her last act, most likely saving the lives of the two males and anyone else on the freeway," said Bowling.
"She ended up dying a hero," Wilson's father, Daniel Wilson, said. "She was shot through her heart and was able to safely pull over the car and save people in her car and other people who were driving."
The injured male was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
