All-clear given after police investigate bomb threat at Lamar High School

The call came in at about 8:20 a.m. at the school on Westheimer Road near Buffalo Speedway.

HOUSTON — Houston police responded to Lamar High School after a bomb threat was called in for the campus Thursday morning, according to Houston ISD officials.

The school was briefly on lockdown mode as police investigated.

The call came in at about 8:20 a.m. at the school on Westheimer Road near Buffalo Speedway.

Houston police said they did a physical sweep of the campus and did not find any suspicious packages or items that may have been out of place.

A K-9 unit was also brought in to help with the sweep and did not detect anything.

Here is the district's full statement on the incident:

"HISD’s Lamar High School was in lockdown for approximately two hours this morning after a bomb threat. The Houston Police Department notified HISD Police that someone called in the threat around the start of the school day. The building was immediately locked down and HISD notified families. Students who were arriving for class at that time had to wait outside, as no one was allowed in or out while HISD Police searched the building and investigated the threat. HISD Police conducted a visual search and a sweep of the building with the K-9 unit. No suspicious materials were found.

"This is the second bomb threat in as many days in HISD. The district’s Police Chief, Shamara Garner, says these threats are not pranks.

"'Campuses should be a safe haven for students and staff. Everyone needs to know that we don't consider threats jokes,' said Chief Garner. 'Any time fear is invoked, it's a serious offense. We will always investigate and present those cases to the District Attorney's office.'

"The lockdown was lifted around 10 a.m. HISD’s top priority is the safety of its students and staff. To anonymously report a school safety concern, call the Say Something tip line at 1-844-5-SayNow."
