HOUSTON — New video obtained by KHOU 11 shows a deadly crash in front of a northwest Harris County home early Thursday. The driver was speeding when he flew over a culvert and landed in the yard on Killough Street, then broke into the house to get help, HCSO said.
Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares was found unconscious inside the home and charged with intoxication manslaughter. His female passenger was killed in the wreck.
The homeowners didn't hear the crash but they were awakened by the sound of a window breaking.
"I Imagine, very scary at 3 o clock in the morning, you're hearing what sounds like a horrific car crash, then breaking glass. It was probably very traumatic for them," HCSO Sgt. Sgt. B Bondurant said.
“What I was scared of was he gets inside and does something to us," Carlos Suarez told us. "But when I learned there was an accident, that changed what I was thinking."
They said Rodriguez yelled for help before he passed out in their bed.
”'Help me, Call the police. My wife is dead,' something like that.” Suarez said.
Rodriguez was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The car caused some damage at Tommy Batterson's family business. He said speeding is nothing new on Killough Street, but they'd never seen anything like what happened this morning.
“There's been a few police chases down the street and everything. It's been a pretty, pretty crazy area," Batterson said. “It was a little bit different today when they jumped across the entire bayou down there, came from the other side of the dead-end street and made it halfway down the block before they ran into the fence and everything,
It was a scary morning for everyone involved, but Suarez and Batterson are both grateful that no one else was hurt.
