HOUSTON — A Houston teacher was arrested and charged with possession of child porn after police say he tried to have sex with an underage boy and sent him nude photos and sexually explicit text messages.
Michael Bourquin, 64, was a teacher at Mangum Elementary, a charter school with Southwest Public Schools, according to court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News. He was arrested at the school earlier this month and police say he admitted he sent the photos and sexted with the 15-year-old.
The investigation began in March when Manvel police alerted the Pearland Police Department about an online solicitation case involving a Houston teacher. Manvel turned it over to Pearland because they have a special unit that investigates internet crimes against children.
Investigators said they found multiple text messages on Telegram between Bourquin and the boy that began in October 2023. They said Bourquin later told them he met the boy on Snapchat and they later moved to Telegram to continue their conversations.
The explicit messages centered on meeting for sex and Bourquin telling the teen what he wanted to do with him.
When the teen told him he was a minor, Bourquin replied, "Does it matter to you that you are a minor and 15? I try not to let age get in the way of what we both want and I know I want to get naked with you ...," according to police.
He tells the boy he wishes they lived closer and could have sex multiple times a day.
"I guess it will be hard at first but I know we will get creative and find ways for us to get together," he said, according to court documents.
They also talked about living together and Bourquin said he might move closer to Manvel to be with the boy, court documents say. Investigators said the teacher mentioned getting a hotel room and taking an Uber to Manvel.
They said Bourquin stopped answering the teen's messages in January.
Pearland police said when they arrested Bourquin at work, he initially denied knowing the boy but eventually admitted they exchanged sexually explicit messages and he sent him video of two men having sex. They said Bourquin first denied knowing the boy was a minor but then admitted it and claimed he never really intended to have sex with him. He said it was just "fantasy teacher/student role-playing as far as he was concerned," according to court documents.
Police said Bourqin's phone also contained photos and videos of underage boys having sex, sometimes with adult males.
We reached out to Southwest Public Schools for comment and they sent us the following statement.
“While we cannot comment on personal matters related to charges filed against Mr. Bourquin, we can affirm that the allegations are unrelated to any Southwest Public Schools’ student. Mr. Bourquin is no longer employed with Southwest Public Schools. Please know the safety of our students is our top priority.”
