HOUSTON — Houston Police Department investigators were busy Wednesday afternoon responding to several shooting scenes across the city.
Multiple people were shot at three different scenes in southwest Houston over a matter of three hours during the afternoon.
A little later into the evening, police said two other people were shot and a teen was pistol-whipped on the southeast side.
Then there were two more scenes late Wednesday night.
The bloody afternoon began in southwest Houston at the intersection of Hillcroft Avenue and Westward Street when a man told police he was walking in a parking lot when a dark-colored sedan pulled up alongside him and opened fire. He was shot twice.
Police said the man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and they don't have a description of the shooter.
After that, a few miles away, investigators taped off a section of an apartment complex on Wilcrest Drive just south of Beechnut Street.
Police said a suspect broke into a man's apartment around 4:15 p.m. during a home invasion and shot him in the leg.
Investigators said the victim managed to take the gun away from the shooter and shot him multiple times, killing him. They said a second suspect who was waiting outside ran away from the scene.
Authorities said they're not sure why the suspects broke into the apartment and they didn't provide a description of the shooter or the accomplice.
A short time later, and only a few blocks away, police said they were called to another location on Wilcrest, this time just north of Beechnut, where another man was shot.
They said the man was crossing the street and heard several gunshots. Then, he realized he had been shot in the leg.
"As far as we know, it’s a random shooting. Like I said, he says he was just crossing the street heard a bang then was shot in the leg," HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.
Again, police did not provide a description of the suspect.
Around 7:30 p.m., police said a 17-year-old man was shot and killed inside the garage of his apartment complex on Selinsky Road at Martin Luther King Boulevard on the southeast side. No charges have been filed, but police said they're aware of two persons of interest.
They also said another man was shot and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Investigators said a teen was also pistol-whipped during this incident.
Two more people were injured in a shooting just after 10 p.m. on FM 1960 near Ramblewood Drive, according to Harris County Precinct 4 deputies.
Then around 11:30 p.m., police said a woman was hit by a stray bullet on Texas Street near Edgewood Drive.
