HPD: Seven people arrested in string of connected shootings that killed one, injured multiple others

HOUSTON — Seven people have been arrested and charged in a string of shootings that happened at the start of last month, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said there were a total of three connected shootings. 

The first took place May 1 on Cullen Boulevard near Ward Street north of the South Loop. According to HPD, officers found a 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound outside a convenience store. The man later died at an area hospital.

One day later, a man and a woman were injured in a shooting along the South Loop not far from the previous incident, police said.

On May 3, three men and a woman were injured in the same area as the first shooting, police said.

A total of seven people have been charged in these shootings.

Cameron Dewane Kennon, 21, has been charged with murder. He's accused in the deadly May 1 shooting.

Parnell Washington, 18, has been charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. Police said they believe Washington was involved with all three shootings.

Issac Zarate, 23, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. HPD said he was involved with the May 2 and May 3 shootings.

The remaining four, 21-year-old Nicholas Jackson, 17-year-old Jyelle Franklin, 18-year-old Matthew Hailu Mekonnen, and 30-year-old Jacolby Pendleton have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. Police said they were involved with the May 3 shooting.
