Security guard shoots other security guard to death in southwest Houston, police say

Houston police said the gunman and the victim were both security guards for the same company.

HOUSTON — A security guard at a shopping center in southwest Houston shot and killed another guard Friday morning, police said.

This happened around 6:30 a.m. on Harwin Drive near Fondren Road.

The Houston Police Department said the victim was at the shopping center when the security guard shot him multiple times. The two men reportedly worked for the same company.

"That’s something we’re going to be looking into, if they were relieving each other or there were some other personal issues that were going on," HPD Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir said at the scene.

After the shooting, police said the accused gunman called 911. Officers detained him at the scene

We don't yet know the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but police said this is an isolated incident.

Both the shooter and the victim are men in their 60s, HPD said.
