HOUSTON — A woman has been arrested in the shooting death of her stepfather who was found inside his home early Tuesday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Darneisha Hall, 34, is charged with murder. She's had multiple arrests since 2008 and was convicted of felony in possession of a weapon in 2021, court records show.
The 66-year-old victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head around 1:20 a.m. He was later identified as Jorish Dwight Sherman, Hall's stepfather.
HPD responded to the call about the shooting at the apartment on Antoine Drive just north of Tidwell shortly after 1:20 a.m.
The Houston Fire Department treated the man at the scene and took him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said it's unclear what led up to the shooting, but a witness said they heard someone knock on the door and get into an argument with the man.
Hall was later found at a nearby bus stop.
"After she was identified, they also recovered a 9-millimeter handgun that was consistent with the shell casings that were found at the scene," said Wesley Stafford, a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
Her bond was set at $400,000.
