HOUSTON — A man who was "acting erratically" was shot and killed by Houston police officers Wednesday in Denver Harbor, officials said.
They said it happened on Rouse Street in Denver Harbor.
What happened
Around 1:30 p.m., police said a man called 911 because his brother was possibly intoxicated and on drugs and was threatening neighbors.
Officers got to the scene about 12 minutes later and found the man at the front door of one of his family member's house on Rouse. They said he was combative and the officers tried to calm him down and de-escalate the situation.
Instead, the man kept moving inside the house. Officers followed him inside. That's when police said the man threatened to get his gun and shoot the officers.
According to police, the officers deployed their Tasers, but they didn't have an effect on the man.
They said he walked toward the kitchen and reached for something. That's when one of the two officers fired several shots, hitting the man, who fell to the ground.
Officers tried to render aid until help arrived but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Here's the update police provided at the scene:
According to police, the man was 46 with no history of mental illness. They said they didn't see any records of calls at the location.
Both of the officers involved were placed on administrative leave. Neither of them were injured. Bodycam video of the incident will be released within 30 days, per HPD policy.
The house where the shooting happened was across the street from a school, which would have been letting kids out at the time the incident was happening. That campus was placed on lockdown as a precaution. No children were injured.
Houston police said the man who was shot and killed actually lived next door. They also said his brother was there throughout the entire ordeal.
