Man arrested after shooting officer in League City, leading officers on a chase on Houston area freeways, police say

The suspect is accused of leading police on a chase into Houston after shooting a Clear Lake Shores police officer in League City.

HOUSTON — A man is in custody after he shot an officer in the arm and led police on a chase from Galveston County into Harris County on Houston-area freeways, police say.

According to the League City Police Department, this started shortly after 2 a.m. when they received a call from the Galveston County Sheriff's Office reporting that an officer with the Clear Lake Shores Police Department had been shot in the arm. The shooting happened near the intersection of Glen Cove Boulevard and East Winn Street.

The Clear Lake Shores officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect, who League City police identified as 24-year-old Codey Colvin of Sugar Land, took off in an SUV. He sped off on I-45 and headed toward Houston.

The Houston Police Department said officers with its gang division spotted the vehicle and saw it turn into an apartment complex in northwest Houston. HPD said the man had gotten out of the car and ran off, but officers were able to track him down with the help of a police helicopter. He was taken into custody without any further incident shortly before 3 a.m.

League City police say Colvin has been charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and his bond has been set at $200,000.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office said he's now also charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. A judge set a $1 million bond for the aggravated assault charge and a $200,000 bond for the unlawful possession charge.

Colvin was being held at the Galveston County Jail.
