She was found dead on a dirt road in the Almeda area last month. Now, a man is charged with murder

In addition to being accused of killing Megan Rouse, Quan Sergio Flowers is also considered a person of interest in the disappearance of Kalie Goodwin.

HOUSTON — A 24-year-old woman was found dead in Houston last month, and now, a man has been charged with murder in connection with her death.

Quan Sergio Flowers, 39, is the man facing charges. He's also known to go by the name "Country," investigators said. As of Monday, he was being held in jail on a $450,000 bond, according to court records. He was taken into custody and charged last Friday, May 31.

What happened

On May 3, a Houston police officer found Megan Rouse's body lying in the middle of Anagnost Road, a dirt road in the Almeda area near where Highway 288 meets the South Belt, just after 10 p.m. She had been severely beaten and shot multiple times and police didn't have much to go on at the time.

According to investigators who worked on the case, shell casings were found near her body as well as Rouse's wallet. She was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m. that night.

Investigators found out that Rouse was alive just before 9 p.m. that same night because she had made a call to a friend. Investigators said it sounded like she was with an unknown man during that call.

Investigators determined the shooting happened within the hour or so between when she made that call and when her body was found.

Rouse's stepmother told investigators that she wasn't in a relationship that she knew about in the area of town where her body was found.

Gathering video evidence

Investigators said they realized the road where Rouse's body was found only had two entrance and exit points, so they got surveillance video from multiple businesses in the area and reviewed the footage around when they thought she was killed.

They said they saw only one car on the remote road during the time they were looking. They said the vehicle remained on Anagnost Road for about 8 minutes and that's when they believe Rouse was killed.

More forensic evidence

Several shell casings were found at the scene, police said. They got multiple hits when they ran the casings through a national database.

They were linked to two aggravated assaults with deadly weapon incidents that the Houston Police Department had on record -- one of which happened on March 29 and the other on April 4. Investigators said the cases occurred in the same area where Rouse's body was found and had similar violent patterns.

On the March 29 incident, a man was shot in the face and arm by a man who had pulled up next to him and told him to "stop messing with my girl." The shell casings at the scene matched the shell casings found where Rouse's body was found, investigators said. They also said the car seen in surveillance video from the scene matched the car seen in surveillance video near where Rouse's body was found.

On April 4, a man called police after gunshots were fired at his house. Shell casings found at that scene also matched the ones found near Rouse's body.

Missing woman case

Flowers is also identified as a person of interest in the disappearance of Kalie Goodwin, 29, who had been reported missing in late April. According to a flyer, she was last seen on April 21 at an apartment complex on Decker Drive. Investigators said when Goodwin's mother reported her missing, she told them she got a call on April 22 from two men demanding that she send them $600. She said she could hear her daughter crying for help and saying she was getting beat up. Goodwin told her, "Momma, my face is deformed."

As of Monday, June 3, Goodwin's case was still open and she was still considered to be missing.
