HOUSTON — A Houston man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for repeatedly molesting an 11-year-old girl, which resulted in her getting pregnant, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
Deon Williams, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14 on Tuesday. As part of the plea deal, he cannot appeal the conviction or the sentence. He must also serve at least half of the prison sentence before he will be eligible for parole.
The plea deal also ensured that the young girl did not have to testify in open court about what happened to her.
What happened
Williams knew the young girl's mother and spent the night at the family's home several times, the DA's office said. While everyone was sleeping, Williams would rape the 11-year-old girl and told her that he would hurt her and her family if she told anyone, according to the DA's office.
When the young girl started having morning sickness and showing signs of pregnancy, a family member gave her a pregnancy test. When the test came back positive, the family called the police, the DA's office said.
An investigation was conducted and Williams was arrested.
The DA's office said the young girl gave the baby up for adoption.
“The victim and her family want to raise awareness that this abuse can happen to anyone and that parents need to stay ever vigilant about who they bring around their kids,” Ogg said. “This could happen to anybody’s family.”
