HOUSTON – A home invasion ended with a Houston father shot to death as his wife and children fled for their lives early Tuesday morning.
It happened in the 8100 block of Panay in southeast Houston.
Investigators say the mother and three children were waiting in the car when they saw a man hit Chester Edwards and force him back into the house.
When the victim's wife realized what was happening she sped away as the gunman fired shots at the vehicle. After dropping the children off at a safe place, the wife went back to the scene.
She saw paramedics outside the home and was told her 34-year-old husband was dead.
Relatives gathered at the scene to console the young widow.
"I'm sorry for my brother. They didn't have to kill him like that. That's the worst thing they could've done. They took my one brother," Sean Edwards said.
"Goes to show you as people engage in this activity—mindless and heartless about the consequences if the children had been hit." HPD Homicide Det. Fil Waters said.
The gunman is described as a black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a skinny build. He was wearing a black hoodie and green sweatpants. He and another man were seen driving a late model, silver Ford F-150 with a red "V" decal on the rear window.
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
