HOUSTON — A Houston-area tax preparer was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for preparing and filing false income tax returns that resulted in more than $500,000 in losses.

After her prison sentence, Krystal Wright will have to complete one year of supervised release and pay $525,404 in restitution.

Wright owned WW2F in Freeport for six years. She was the only tax preparer at the business.

According to the United States Attorney's Office, most of her clients didn't have a business or talk about business income or expenses with her. Once Wright completed a tax return, she wouldn't review the documents with clients and would only give them the refund amount and the first two pages of the return, which prevented clients from seeing overstated or false items on their tax returns.

Between 2017 and 2020, Wright filed about 83 federal income tax returns with false information. Some of the fraudulent information included:

  • Solar electric property costs
  • Gifts by cash or check
  • Business expenses
  • Wages
  • Salaries
  • Tips
  • Supplies

The fraudulent filings resulted in a tax harm of $525,404.
