HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The woman believed to be responsible for a deadly hit-and-run crash on Wednesday morning was arrested at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Wednesday evening.
Nyla Gamboa, 22, is charged with failure to stop and render aid involving death, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.
Gamboa is accused of hitting a bicyclist at the intersection of Airtex Drive and Brundage Drive, which is just west of the North Freeway. The bicyclist, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said they were able to identify Gamboa through surveillance video after she ditched her vehicle a few blocks away from the crash scene. The vehicle was still running but the driver had left the scene in another vehicle, according to authorities.
On Wednesday afternoon, Precinct 4 officials held a news conference and released a still image of the woman seen leaving the scene.
A few hours later, around 6 p.m., authorities announced that Gamboa had been arrested at IAH. They said she was attempting to board a flight that was heading out of the state.
