HOUSTON — A man was shot and killed Wednesday in southwest Houston, according to police.
It happened at a home on Heatherbloom Drive, which is in a neighborhood just north of Sims Bayou and just southwest of the intersection of West Orem Drive and South Post Oak Road.
According to Houston police, the shooting happened around 3 p.m. and investigators said a man and his daughter were home at the time. Houston Police Department Lt. Bryan Bui said they were in a room together when they heard someone come in the front door.
The daughter thought it was someone breaking in, so she pulled out her pistol and shot the 50-year-old man several times after he came in the front door. Investigators said he was shot three times in the abdomen and more than a half dozen shell casings were found at the scene.
Investigators said it didn't appear that the man forced his way inside the house and he was found about 5 feet inside the front door. Police said he wasn't armed and it didn't appear that any words were exchanged once he got inside.
It's unknown if anyone will be charged in connection with the incident.
After the shooting, authorities said, the woman who opened fire was shaken up. She also told them she had never seen the man before and didn't know who he was.
