HARRIS COUNTY – A 29-year-old is in jail after leading a string of law enforcement on a wild chase through Copperfield.
A spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office tells KHOU 11 News, deputies caught the man breaking into two cars at a Target parking lot near Highway 6 and FM 529, after someone called 911. Deputies said when they arrived on scene the man took off.
Investigators haven’t identified the suspect, but say he took his white GMC SUV to speeds up to 65 mph along several streets including Barker-Cypress Road, twice, Old Greenhouse Road a few times, and then took two laps around his neighborhood. The chase ended in the suspect's driveway.
State Troopers used spike strips to pop the front tires on the SUV about two miles from where the chase ended.
Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland says the driver of the SUV will likely be charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, and a felony count of evading law enforcement.
A second man has also been detained for interfering with the deputy’s investigation.
