Sheriff: Shooter in custody after opening fire inside northeast Harris County Walmart

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a man was taken into custody after shooting another man inside the Walmart on Beltway 8 near Wallisville Road.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was taken into custody Sunday after shooting another man inside a Walmart in east Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

It happened around noon at the Walmart on Beltway 8 near Wallisville Road.

Authorities initially said the two men likely knew each other and got into a fight in the back of the store. During the argument, one of the men pulled out a pistol and shot the other in the abdomen.

Officials said the shooter left the Walmart and went to a nearby Murphy USA gas station, where he barricaded himself and called the police. When authorities got there, the man was taken into custody.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.
