HCSO: Bodycam video shows deputies shoot, kill man who was carrying two rifles

The video shows five deputies open fire on the man using pistols, a shotgun and a rifle.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The Harris County Sheriff's Office on Friday released video of an incident earlier in December in which deputies shot and killed a man.

The video shows the moment five deputies opened fire on the man, who was seen carrying two rifles. HCSO has since identified the man as 45-year-old Jonathan Yi.

The incident happened on December 1 just before 11 a.m. when the sheriff's office got a call about an abandoned vehicle outside a home on Flemington Avenue in northwest Harris County.

When the first deputy arrived, they reported hearing multiple gunshots. As backup arrived, more shots were heard coming from inside the home. About 30 minutes later, HCSO said Yi came out of the house holding a rifle in each hand.

That's when the five deputies opened fire on the man using pistols, a shotgun and a rifle.

Afterward, the deputies were seen putting tourniquets on Yi. HCSO said Yi died from his injuries at the scene. No deputies were injured.

Deputies recovered two rifles and a handgun.

The incident is under investigation by HCSO's homicide division. The Harris County District Attorney's Office is also conducting its own independent investigation.
