HOUSTON — A man is dead after shots rang out at a Halloween party early Sunday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
This happened around 1:30 a.m. at a party venue on Bissonnet Street near S. Kirkwood Road.
Police said some kind of fight broke out at the party and shots were fired. It is unknown if the shots were fired inside or outside the venue.
A man, who was approximately 19 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was shot, but he is expected to survive.
Investigators were working to speak with witnesses and gather surveillance video in the area. Police also told KHOU 11 News that they interviewed the staff at the event venue.
Nearby businesses said they were devastated by the loss of life, especially to someone so young. Ahmed Suhail owns a herb shop across the parking lot from where the shooting took place, and he said he was surprised by the shooting
"You know, people are scared when they see the shooting over here, 'What the hell is going on here,'" Suhail said. "It's bad for the center, too. People, if things happen, who is going to come here?"
The Houston Police Department said the shooting was an isolated incident. As of Sunday night, police did not release any information about a potential suspect or suspects.
