'We want to know exactly what happened' | Family demands answers after 80-year-old veteran dies following grocery store attack

The entire incident was caught on video. Family told KHOU 11 News they still haven't seen it.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The family of an 80-year-old disabled veteran is pushing for answers a week following his death.

Earl Hollins, 80, was attacked during an altercation outside a north Harris County grocery store on Dec. 6.

"We're all grieving in different ways right now," said Chantal Cadmus, one of Hollins' six children.

Cadmus said the injury was so severe Hollins later had no brain activity. Family took him off life support.

"We were all still praying and hoping that he would wake up," she said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Anthony Boyce, 57, approached Hollins outside a Food Town and struck him in the head in what officials described as a dispute over a parking space.

Boyce is now charged with murder. He is currently out on bond.

Cadmus and the rest of the family have questions over the response to the attack.

At the scene, a witness said he didn't feel as if help wasn't arriving soon enough, so, he drove to a nearby fire station for help.

In the report, they stated they were notified around 1:30 p.m. and that Hollins was conscious at the time.

Officials responded around 2 p.m. The sheriff's office said the initial call came in at 12:57 p.m. as an assault not in progress, which is classified as a lower level of urgency based on the caller's information.

After the scene was assessed, the incident was reclassified as an aggravated assault.

The entire incident was caught on video. Family told KHOU 11 News they still haven't seen it.

As they seek justice, Hollins’ family is holding on to cherished memories of their time with him.

“The time we spent was in the kitchen, making food and talking about family,” Cadmus said.

She never imagined her father's life would end like this.

“Make amends with the people that love you because you never know when it’s going to be your last time,” Cadmus said.

KHOU 11 News reached out to Boyce’s attorney for comment but has not yet received a response.

A GoFundMe has been set up for funeral expenses.
