GALVESTON, Texas — A man was injured after being shot by a Galveston police officer Sunday evening, according to the police department.

One of the persons involved told officers the disturbance was with a significant other and that he was possibly inside the complex with a firearm, Banks said.

Officers found the man inside a building on Winnie Street near the apartments, but he ran off.

Banks said officers confronted him at the corner of 53rd Street and Ball Avenue, which is where an officer opened fire at the suspect.

Police did not say if the suspect pointed a weapon at the officer or fired a weapon before the shooting occurred.

The officer who shot at the suspect was not injured, according to Banks.

Banks said the shooting victim is receiving medical treatment at UTMB Health. His condition is unknown.

As per protocol, the Galveston County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers will investigate the shooting.
