Ongoing issues between neighbors leads to SWAT standoff in Fort Bend County, officials say

Authorities said two neighbors were shooting at each other's houses before the standoff.

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — A Fresno man was taken to jail and charged with deadly conduct after an hourslong standoff Wednesday morning.

He's accused of firing shots into his neighbor’s home. Fort Bend county law enforcement officials said a yearlong dispute came to a head.

The early-morning wake-up call for neighbors in the Cambridge Falls neighborhood came in the form of gunshots.

"Around 4:30 (a.m.) we heard some gunshots, and I think he physically shot into the next-door neighbor’s house," a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous said.

Officials said David Jackson fired shots into his neighbor’s home. The neighbor's family members said the shots came through a bedroom window and sent smoke into the air.

"The 41-year-old white male is the person who initiated this," Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Cpt. Michael Fisher said.

Fisher said Jackson fired rounds into his neighbor’s home and the neighbor returned fire. No one was hit, but relatives said two young children were in Jackson's neighbor's home when the shots came through the window and wall.

"The neighbor next door has a family, and just like anybody, we don’t want this kind of activity in our neighborhood," the anonymous neighbor said.

Deputies, SWAT and negotiators were at the scene for hours while Jackson remained holed up in his house.

In a neighbor's surveillance video, police lights were seen and law enforcement commands were heard.

Jackson surrendered and was arrested after about six hours.

"Evidently there is an ongoing dispute between him and the neighbor. What really sparked that? Been going on for approximately a year and it came to a head this morning," Fisher said.

Only Jackson was arrested.
