HOUSTON – A former Waller ISD coach and teacher arrested over the weekend for allegedly sending sexually explicit emails to a high school girl made his first appearance in a Harris County courtroom Monday morning.

Whit Mitchell, 43, is free on bond after his arrest Friday. In the 182nd Criminal Court, Judge Jeannine Barr reset Mitchell's court appearance to give him time to get an attorney, while also telling him the rules he must follow while he's out on bond.

The former coach and computer teacher at W.C. Schultz Junior High is charged with online solicitation of a minor. An investigator claims Mitchell confessed to sending emails to a 16-year-old female high school student asking for sex. Court documents claim those emails also contained pornographic images.

Investigators say Mitchell met the girl when she faced disciplinary action as an eight-grader at Schultz Junior High, then the two kept in touch by email after she left. Court documents claim investigators were tipped off by the girl's mom, who saw the emails on her daughter's phone last Thursday.

Danny Twardowski, Waller ISD‘s superintendent, said in a statement that the district has started their own investigation after learning about the allegations Friday afternoon.

Twardowski says as a result, Mitchell resigned from Schultz Junior High, and parents were immediately notified of the allegations and his arrest.
