Haney, who was 53 at the time of the crash, was initially charged with felony intoxication manslaughter. Authorities said Haney took prescription medicine and also admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash.

The crash

On July 3, 2017, Haney was driving on the shoulder of I-45 near the Galveston Causeway at an "unsafe speed" when she crashed into the father and his son who were standing outside of their truck, according to investigators.

Authorities said the father and son were securing equipment in the back of their truck when they were hit.

Haney was indicted in 2018 for the 2017 crash. A grand jury issued indictments on two counts of manslaughter. She faces probation or 2 to 20 years in prison. She posted bond shortly after her arrest and has been out ever since, even returning to work just after the crash.
