HOUSTON — A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged nearly 18 months after a deadly crash in the Montrose area.
Juan Depaz, Jr. is facing three counts of failure to stop and render aid involving death.
Three men died in the crash on Nov. 13, 2022.
It happened along West Dallas Street between Waugh Drive and Montrose Boulevard around 2:15 a.m.
According to investigators, Depaz was driving a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on West Dallas next to a blue Maserati Ghibli. They said the Jeep left its lane and hit the Maserati. The Maserati hit a utility pole and a patio fence while the Jeep continued down West Dallas for a bit before hitting a utility pole at Eberhard Street.
There were four people inside the Maserati at the time of the crash -- two of them died at the scene and a third was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he died on Dec. 2, 2022. The victims were later identified as Luis Ramirez Torres, 24, Jacob Rodriguez, 23, and Johnny Aguilar, 26. The driver of the Maserati ran from the scene but came back with family members, police said.
There were multiple people inside the Jeep at the time of the crash -- all of whom ran from the scene, according to police. Investigators said they identified Depaz as the driver of the Jeep and a grand jury indicted him on the charges on April 25, a year and a half after the crash. On May 2, he was arrested.
It's unclear when he's due back in court.
