Man who shot, killed 3 people inside Houston club sentenced

A Harris County jury convicted Demontae Williams, 24, of capital murder for the 2020 shooting at the DD Sky Club on Chenevert Street.

HOUSTON — A Wharton man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he and another guy shot and killed three people during open mic night at a Houston club.

Jurors sentenced Demontae Lavon Williams, 28, to life without parole.

They convicted Williams of capital murder for the Oct. 20, 2020 shooting at the DD Sky Club on Chenevert Street near I-45 and I-69.

Jailyn Bernard Page, 19, Bryce Lee Goddard, 21, and Christopher Donshae Jackson, 22, died at the scene. A fourth victim, 17-year-old Sir John Mitchell, was critically injured but he survived.

“The young men who were killed had families that loved them and had their whole lives ahead of them,” Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Meriwether said.

Prosecutors said Williams and Le Dadrine Da Prea Hall bypassed security and snuck into the club with guns. They got into an argument with a group of men they knew, including Page and Goddard, and opened fire.

Jackson wasn't involved in the fight but was killed by a stray bullet.

“This is yet another example of how gun violence can tear families apart,” Ogg said. “Three young men, one of whom was a completely innocent bystander, were killed when this defendant flouted our laws and avoided every security measure put in place to protect people in that club, and a Harris County jury agreed that he deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars.”

Jurors rejected Williams’ claims of self-defense after hearing that he and Hall came to the club armed and ready for a fight.

Hall is also charged with capital murder in the case. His case is still pending.
