CONROE, Texas — It's been more than a week since a Conroe pediatrician was stabbed to death while sitting at a picnic table, and the motive for the stabbing is still unknown.
The suspect, Miles Joseph Fridrich, 24, met his court-appointed attorney on Monday who was able to reset his court hearing to December 11. It was originally set for November 27.
For Dr. Talat Jehan Khan's family, this loss has been very tough.
“The wound is very very fresh," Wajahat Nyaz, Khan’s older brother, told KHOU. "We’re just hanging in there."
On October 28, Khan was sitting at a picnic table in the common area of her apartment complex when she was stabbed multiple times by Fridrich, according to Conroe police. Witnesses said he came out of nowhere.
Khan was a pediatrician at Texas Children’s Hospital. She recently moved from the Seattle area to Houston.
Conroe police said the investigation into Khan's death is ongoing, and at this point, they've not been able to figure out why Fridrich stabbed Khan to death.
“We understand it’s a process and it’s going to take what it’s going to take," Nyaz said. "It’s requiring a lot of patience for us. It’s very hard not knowing, it’s very hard trying to understand why things aren’t moving fast since the case is so clear cut."
Fridrich has been charged with first-degree murder and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond. According to his criminal history, Fridrich had been previously arrested in Montgomery County and Travis County. Charges in those cases were later dismissed.
Who was Dr. Talat Jehan Khan?
Khan's family members said she just wanted a moment of peace when she was killed in the common area of her apartment complex.
According to Nyaz, Khan moved to Houston because she wanted to go somewhere sunny.
"She moved out here and she liked it, liked the sun and the warm weather," Nyaz said.
Khan had two children.
