Man shoots his way out of Houston convenience store while trying to steal a can beer

A quick-thinking clerk locked the door after the man tried leaving without paying.

HOUSTON — Police are looking for a man who pulled out a gun and shot at a door to escape after police said he wouldn't pay for a can of beer.

One of the clerks we spoke with said he’d noticed an increase in young people entering the store armed, including the man seen in the video.

Police said the man tried to steal a drink at a convenience store on Chimney Rock Road just south of Gulfton Street. He turned to leave with the drink, but the door was locked. He is seen offering the clerk a handful of bills. He pushed hard on the door again.

While the clerk returned the drink, the man is seen on video pulling a handgun from his waistband, aiming at the lower glass pane of the door, and pushing out the glass. He ducks through the glass and walks away from the store.

"Fortunately, no one was injured," the clerk said. "The door was repaired, but the workers were scared and hope this young man is caught before he causes any other problems."

The man has a distinctive black T-shirt with a design of a face with a large mustache.

If you recognize the man, call Houston police at 713-308-8800.
