THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A children's gymnastics coach in The Woodlands has been charged with sexual assault of a child.
Morgan Bennett, 22, was a coach at Maximum Athletics on FM 2978.
Bennett was fired in February after he was first accused of having sex with an underage employee.
"Safety and the well-being of the kids comes first to us and that was why the termination was immediate when we found this came to our knowledge," said Derrick Atherton with the Maximum Athletic Center.
Atherton admits he was surprised by the accusations.
"He did great with teaching the kids. We never had any problems with him," Atherton said.
The 16-year-old girl's parents found out about the allegations and alerted authorities.
After a lengthy investigation, Bennett was arrested Wednesday night and jailed on a $10,000 bond.
Investigators believe there might be other victims.
"Obviously, when you're dealing with the gymnastic studio you're going to have clientele of the younger nature and it's just going to be open access at that time," said Chief Matthew Rodrigue with Montgomery Co. Precinct 3.
According to gym manager Kristen Dutka, safety precautions were and are in place to ensure the safety of their students.
"We don't ever let students be one-on-one with any of our coaches and we have closed-circuit cameras at all times," explained Dutka.
