HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has been arrested in a hit and killed a 10-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle in the Katy area Thursday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
HCSO said the crash happened just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Windy Stony Drive and Concord Green Drive.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, 36-year-old Alex Tuan Vuong has been arrested and is charged with failure to stop in render aid in connection with the crash.
The 10-year-old was on a bike heading west on Windy Stone and the driver of a dark-colored SUV was heading north on Concord Green just moments before the collision.
The boy's family told KHOU 11's Deevon Rahming that his mother was watching her son ride the bike when the crash happened. Officials said the 10-year-old was knocked off and the driver took off, dragging the bike underneath the car for about half a mile.
The child was flown to an area hospital where he died nearly an hour after the crash.
Family said he had just turned 10 on Monday. A neighbor said the boy loved to ride his bike.
"Sweet little boy always riding his bike," said Malaika Roberts. "Sadly his life was taken last night."
