HOUSTON — DPS state troopers arrested a suspect after they say he robbed a casino on the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas reservation just outside of Livingston.
According to Tribal Police Chief Rex Evans, this started just before 6 a.m. when the suspect walked into the casino and robbed the place. Tribal police responded quickly to the scene.
Patrons and employees pointed to the suspect who sped away in a white Dodge Charger and police started their pursuit, the chief said.
The chase proceeded through Livingston and then south on I-69, the chief said. He added that the suspect was involved in several collisions in Livingston.
The chase continued for 50 more miles until the suspect's vehicle came to a stop between Kingwood Drive and Northpark after he blew out a tire, the chief said.
State troopers, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and other agencies closed the freeway as a standoff ensued.
The suspect eventually surrendered.
The freeway remained closed for a little while longer as authorities conducted their investigation.
The police chief said this is the first time the casino has ever been robbed.
