HOUSTON — Authorities are trying to track down a Houston-area man accused of stealing women's identities, property and cash.
Donald Ray Washington faces charges in both Fort Bend and Montgomery counties with outstanding warrants in both jurisdictions.
Detectives said they know of at least a dozen victims but think the number could stretch to well beyond 100 and include women from Houston to Dallas.
Some victims have created a Facebook page to draw attention to the case of the suspect believed to call himself the gingerbread man.
Jon Alfaro, a local bounty hunter, is trying to track him down.
"It's very important," said Alfaro, "because the only way that he can be surviving right now is to be in the act of committing more of these heinous acts against women."
Tera Lynette Williams-Jones said Washington warmed up to her a few years ago after her husband died.
"He kind of stepped up as my go-to person," said Williams-Jones. "He volunteered to help me."
But, according to Williams-Jones, before long Washington began helping himself to the $250,000 from her husband's life insurance policy she had hidden in her home.
"Don had taken every dime that I had. He had gotten ahold of my bank account information," said Williams-Jones.
Williams-Jones said Washington used her personal information to purchase cars and rent apartments in her name.
Washington's alleged crimes date back to 2007. Texas Bounty Hunters is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to his apprehension.

Alfaro admitted that by now Washington could be anywhere.
"So long as he's in these 48 continental states, we'll find him," Alfaro said.
