HOUSTON — Houston police have a murder arrest warrant out for a woman accused of killing her husband while her two sons were in the home.
This happened in the spring, but it was only this weekend her charge was upgraded from aggravated assault to murder.
The victim was a popular up-and-coming bodybuilder.
His long-time athletic trainer and friend Christopher Alejandro told KHOU 11 News that 26-year-old Michael Chidozie was on life support before he finally died from his injuries.
The news of his death, Alejandro said, shocked many in the bodybuilding community. He said they were hoping he’d pull through.
“When I found out about the actual passing, I was surprised because his body is so strong, and I thought he would wake up,” Alejandro said.
Alejandro said Chidozie migrated to Houston from Nigeria, starting a family here before his death.
Back in March, investigators said his wife, 28-year-old Keaiira Chidozie, shot Michael several times at their apartment on Yorktown Street.
Apparently, an argument escalated between the two leading up to the deadly shooting.
The couple’s two kids were not hurt when shots were fired.
Michael’s trainer said many organizations in the bodybuilding world displayed tribute posts to remember him.
“When people finally found out that he was gone, one thing I absolutely loved is that the whole bodybuilding community came together, Iron magazine, all the natural federations. All the federations were posting rest in peace,” Alejandro said.
Alejandro said they even hosted a benefit event at his gym in College Station to raise money for Michael’s two young boys.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office charged Keaiira Chidozie with murder, claiming she intentionally shot and killed her husband.
