HOUSTON — An investigation is underway after a body was found in a railcar in Houston's Second Ward Friday morning.
The gruesome discovery happened at a cement materials facility on the 5300 block of Navigation Boulevard at the intersection of Engel Street. The facility is owned by CEMEX, a Mexican corporation.
According to the Houston Police Department, workers discovered the body while unloading a railcar full of rocks. When workers opened a shoot on the underside of the railcar, the woman's body tumbled out.
"The female came out and fell to the ground, it was quite obvious she’d been deceased it looks like for a few days," Commander Chris Hassig with HPD's Homicide Division said.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was found with clothes on and some signs of bodily trauma, possibly from the rocks. It's not yet clear if she was homeless, or if she was carrying identifying information.
When asked if there was anything suspicious or potentially criminal about the woman's death, Hassig said it was too early to tell.
"At this point, it’s too early to tell, obviously she got into the railcar somehow, how exactly and where we don’t know," he said. "We’re looking at the manifest and the logs of the rail car to try and find out exactly what took place."
At 1:32 p.m., CEMEX in a statement confirmed to KHOU 11 that a body was found at one of its aggregate yards. Read CEMEX's full statement:
