HOUSTON — A 15-year-old girl is dead, and two men are hurt — one of them critically — after a shootout in a restaurant parking lot in west Houston.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. on Bellaire Boulevard near Hillcroft Avenue.
Lt. R. Wilkens with the Houston Police Department said investigators believe two men were riding in the parking lot in a Honda Civic when two men parked in a Chevrolet Trailblazer opened fire on them. HPD said one of the men with the Trailblazer was on foot and had a rifle.
Someone in the Civic reportedly fired back at the men with a pistol. In total, police believe there were three or four shooters.
When officers arrived at the scene, the only victim still there was a 21-year-old man. HPD said he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he underwent surgery.
Editor's note: HPD originally reported that the victim at the scene was 19 years old. They later reported he is believed to be 21.
A 15-year-old girl was taken to a hospital by paramedics, where she was pronounced dead. Police are working to determine how, or if, she was connected to the incident.
A 29-year-old man was also taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. HPD said he is expected to recover and is able to talk.
Police said it's unclear whether the two groups knew each other. Investigators are working to identify the men in the Trailblazer.
