HOUSTON — Houston police are looking for a man who's responsible for an armed robbery on the southwest side a couple of months ago.
On Monday, investigators released video of the robbery that happened on Oct. 5 around 5:40 p.m. at an ATM on Bellaire Boulevard near South Kirkwood Road.
KHOU 11 reporter Jason Miles sat down for an interview with the victim, 21-year-old Alexander Montenegro. He said he works in construction and went to the ATM to deposit $600 of his hard-earned cash. He said the whole thing went down while other people were in line.
Montenegro said he resisted at first but when he saw the gun, he complied.
"There was a man standing by the door and he said, 'Hey, give me all your money,'" Montenegro said. "I told him, 'Please don't do that.' And he said, 'I'm going to count to five. You better give me all your money.'"
Montenegro said he put the money on the ground and walked to his car. He said it left a lasting impression on his sense of security.
"I'm afraid to go out in the street now. I feel like something's going to happen to me," he said. "I do want to press charges because he caused me a lot of harm."
Montenegro said he moved to Houston from Nicaragua two years ago and felt safe until this incident happened.
"I feel like there's more security here but I've never been robbed in my own country," he said.
When Montenegro walked away, the suspect picked up the money and walked to a nearby restaurant. When he came out of the restaurant, he was wearing a different shirt, police said. He then left the scene.
The suspect was described by police as being about 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He was wearing a green hat, black shirt and blue shorts when the robbery happened. After he came out of the restaurant, he was wearing a white tank top.
