1 dead, 1 injured in shooting in southwest Houston, police say

Investigators said they're not sure about a motive behind the shooting but one man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was taken to an area hospital.

HOUSTON — A man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in southwest Houston on Thursday, according to police.

Investigators said they first got the call around 4:30 p.m.

Officers responded and found multiple people shot in a car that had stopped at a Wells Fargo bank near the intersection of Beechnut Street and Beltway 8. Authorities said the shooting didn't happen at the bank, rather it happened somewhere else and the vehicle just stopped there.

Authorities said one man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was taken to an area hospital. He had been shot at least once and police said he was expected to survive.

A woman and a baby girl were in the backseat of the car. They were both unharmed, according to police.

Investigators said they were working to find surveillance video or more witnesses to help them piece together what happened. They said the woman in the backseat told them she wasn't paying attention when the shots rang out.

The white car at the scene was riddled with bullet holes.

Authorities said they're not sure if the shooting was a road rage situation or if the people who were shot were targeted.

No one had been taken into custody as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday and police didn't describe a shooter or another vehicle that could have been involved.
