Investigators are searching for clues after a man was found dead in his Baytown apartment Monday morning, police said.

BAYTOWN, Texas – Investigators are searching for clues after a man was found dead in his Baytown apartment Monday morning, police said.

According to the Baytown Police Department, management personnel at the Baypointe Apartments, located in the 800 block of Northwood, were checking the status of one of the residents who was overdue on a rent payment.

After failed attempts to get a response from the resident, management personnel entered the apartment and found the body of a deceased male lying on the floor, police said.

Baytown Police and EMS were dispatched to the apartment and verified that the person was deceased, and had been dead for a number of days.

Although police have not yet established a positive identity, they are fairly certain the deceased is the person who was renting the apartment.

The remains were taken to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy, where preliminary evidence strongly suggests that the person died as the result of homicide.

Specifics as to the cause of death are not being released until an official investigation is completed by the medical examiner's office.

Police are looking for the apartment owner's vehicle which is missing at this time, and are asking for help in locating a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup, blue in color with a white camper, Texas license plate 3GRKP.

Anyone who may have information on this or any other crime is asked to call the Baytown Police Department at 281-422-8371.
