Worker shoots at, scares off group of robbers at ATM in northwest Harris County, sheriff says

An investigator with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said they don't believe any of the suspects were hit. They didn't get away with any money.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — An investigation is underway after three men tried to rob workers servicing an ATM in northwest Harris County, investigators say.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez first posted about the incident on X at 10:59 a.m. This happened at a Bank of America location on Barker Cypress Road near Tuckerton Road.

HCSO Deputy Investigator Ryan Hilz said three technicians were performing routine maintenance on an ATM when a car pulled up and three men got out. The men told the technicians they had a gun and demanded money from the ATM. That's when Hilz said one of the technicians opened fire on the suspects. Investigators don't believe anyone was hit.

One of the men took off in the car and the other two ran off. At some point, Hilz said one of the men who ran off got back into the suspects' car. The third man was detained in the area. Investigators did not recover a gun from the detained suspect.

There's no word on the two who got away, but Hilz said deputies were still searching the area for them.

Investigators were looking over surveillance video to learn more.
