HOUSTON — After a week away, the statue that's been in front of a north Houston bakery for decades is now back where it belongs.
The statue was swiped from in front of Arandas Bakery on Airline Drive on Thanksgiving. On Friday, it was returned.
The bakery's owners sent a photo of the statue to KHOU 11's Anayeli Ruiz after it was returned. They told her it was brought back at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
According to the bakery, the person who took it did so because they thought it would be funny. The owner said they're just happy it's back and they won't file a police report.
The statue has been in front of the bakery, known for its traditional Mexican pastries and desserts, since it opened around 30 years ago.
It was placed there by founder Don Jose Camerena, an employee told us.
The statue is made out of stucco and isn't worth a lot.
"The monetary value isn’t much, but for us, it is a sentimental value," the employee said. "He means a lot to us since it was the first branding we had here at Arandas Bakery."
Before it was returned, Arandas Bakery put out a statement, saying they were giving the person who took it the opportunity to bring it back without involving law enforcement.
