ANGLETON, Texas — A man was arrested after two people were killed in a workplace shooting in Angleton on Monday morning, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.
There was a heavy police presence at Thermal Polymer industrial facility on Velasco Street after reports of an active shooter.
Angleton police said officers responded to the scene just before 8:20 a.m.
When police arrived at the scene, officers found two victims, a man and a woman. Both were flown by Life Flight to Houston for treatment. They didn't survive.
"The initial information we have is there was another employee here, a female employee, he held a gun to her head and walked inside the building," Angleton police said. "He did not shoot her, he shot the other two people in a back office."
Police identified the suspected shooter as Bradley Jones, 35. Investigators said Jones' wife was a former employee of Thermal Polymer.
BCSO said Jones was found at a nearby beach. They said he was inside a vehicle and threatening to kill himself as law enforcement approached, but after negotiating, he surrendered peacefully.
The sheriff’s office said family assistance was set up at the Angleton Recreation Center.
Angleton ISD said all of its campuses went into “secure” mode as a precautionary measure.
People were asked to avoid the area. Highway 288B from Highway 35 to Dwyer was shut down.
Gov. Greg Abbott released this statement about the shootings:
"Texans mourn with the Angleton community following the tragic shooting at the Thermal Polymer industrial facility. I have been in contact with state and local officials to offer the full support of the State of Texas to ensure this criminal is brought to justice. We thank all the brave law enforcement and first responders who apprehended this criminal and protected their fellow Texans. Cecilia and I ask all Texans to join us in prayer for the victims of this heinous crime as well as their families and loved ones."
